Smiths Falls Spring Fling Running Thing! April 22nd, 2012

Holy smokes, we are thrilled by the response to this race. You guys are awesome and on Sunday, 265 of you will be joining us for the inaugural Spring Fling Running Thing! 

Please try and be at the race site at least 1 hour before the race. Consider parking, and that you may have to walk a little bit. Please remember that over 200 of you will be trying to get timing chips, which means there will probably be a line. If everyone shows up at 08:30, it would mean delaying the race and we definitely don’t want to do that.
To get to our race, we are suggesting that park at one of the larger lots off of Lombard Street, and enter the trail at the LCBO location. We will have a couple of greeters waving at you showing you where to go. I am sure there will be a trail of people also walking towards it. You can see the map below.

Pledge Forms
If you collected pledges for the Foundation, simply hand them in the morning of the race at the registration desk.
Race Start Times -
Half – Starts at 09:00 am sharp
10K – Starts at 09:05 am
5K – Starts at 09:10 am
2K – Starts at 09:15 am
Awards and Draws
2K Fun draw at 10:00 am ( all participants are eligible for draw prize, we’ll have 10 to give away )
5K awards at 10:15 am
10k awards at 10:30 am
Half awards at 11:30 am
Post Race Food
We’ll have bananas and bagels courtesy of Andress’s YIG for you to munch on after the race.
Your first race? Here are some tips for you! 
-Give yourself lots of time to get there and get ready. Having to rush will make it less enjoyable for you.
-Make a list the night before and double check it before you leave in the morning. Don’t forget your running shoes! Yes..it does happen!
-Eat at least 90 minutes before your race.
-Don’t change your diet the night before or on race morning! Stay simple and stay with what works for you. Now is not the time to experiment with something new.
-Have fun, this is about you. If there is something we can do to make your day more enjoyable, let us know.
-Do your ABC’s before the race
-Position yourself correctly. If this is your first race, you may not want to be at the front of the pack leading out.
-Be proud – it does not matter what distance you ran or what your time is, you did it! 
Garbage
Please help us keep the trail clean and clear of trash. Dispose of your garbage at the water stations not along the trail. We are very happy to announce that we are going for an almost zero landfill race. More on this to follow…
Medical
We will have a medical team at the start and finish line as well as patrolling the course. If you experience any issues, please let us know and we will come to your aid!
Stay in our town and enjoy the day!
We have a lot to offer you, consider staying and having lunch at one of the excellent restaurants in the area. Take a stroll through our downtown and see what we have for you.
The Race
We’ll have trail markers, turn signs and lots of people helping you know where to turn. Don’t worry…we will not get you lost.
The 2K, 5K and 10K all stay on the trail and simply turn around on it making it and out and back.
The Half Marathon will see you running out 10KMs. There will be road crossings along the way, but not to worry..we have experienced road marshals there to stop traffic when they see you coming. Once you hit Strickland Road (which we will tell you ), you’ll see a water table, a porta potty and someone saying…”Go this way!”
It’s here you will exit the trail for a little bit. You will turn back towards Smiths Falls and run along Strickland Road which turns into Station Road. You’ll continue running straight through some small rollers until you come to Kelly Road. Our guides will direct you “left” and down Kelly Road where you run back towards the trail. You will see the trail….But wait…before you enter the trail again, you’ll be directed to do one loop of Tudor Circle. On your exit of Tudor circle, you go right back onto the Trail and head straight back to Smiths Falls along the same route you ran coming out.
Four!!!
Heads up to the Half Marathoners! You’ll be running right through the Lombard Glen Golf Course! NO worries, the course knows your coming but there is one hole that plays across the trail.
The Cat Trail
Please take a moment and stop at the Cat Trail’s booth. We are very fortunate to have something so wonderful right in our back yard!
